Welcome to Alcove Psychology, a psychotherapy practice based in Laval, Quebec. This space was created with one simple intention: to help people find calm, clarity, and connection within themselves and in their relationships.
Whether you’re exploring therapy for anxiety, navigating perfectionism, or simply wanting to feel more at ease in your body, this blog is a gentle place to begin.

Why I Created Alcove Psychology
After years of working as a psychotherapist, I noticed a common thread. So many people were exhausted from holding everything together. Beneath the surface of success, organization, and “doing all the right things,” there was often quiet burnout and a nervous system stuck in overdrive.
Alcove Psychology was born from a desire to create something slower. A space where healing could happen through warmth, curiosity, and connection instead of pressure or performance. Our therapy approach is relational, compassionate, and grounded in evidence-based care for anxiety, self-doubt, and emotional overwhelm.
That same intention extends here through this blog, a place for reflection, nervous system education, and gentle reminders that you don’t have to do this alone.
A Little About Me
I’m Caitlin, a psychotherapist and the founder of Alcove Psychology. I specialize in helping people untangle anxiety, perfectionism, and burnout, especially those who appear “high-functioning” on the outside but feel constantly on edge inside.
My therapeutic approach draws from CBT, Schema Therapy, and Internal Family Systems (IFS), but what truly guides me is the nervous system — understanding how it speaks, and how to help it feel safe again.
I’m also a mother, a wife, and human who has navigated my own seasons of anxiety. Those experiences taught me that healing isn’t about becoming fearless. It’s about learning to stay with yourself, even when fear is present.
What You’ll Find in This Blog: Psychology, Reflection & Lived Experience
This blog is an extension of what we do in session: calm, reflective, and rooted in growth. In the coming months, I’ll be sharing insights and tools for:
Anxiety therapy and regulation — what it really means to calm your nervous system
Perfectionism support — shifting from self-criticism to self-trust
Boundaries and burnout prevention — especially for caregivers and high achievers
Mind-body connection — understanding how emotion lives in the body
Each post will blend psychology, reflection, and lived experience, written to meet you gently where you are.
Why I’m Writing
Therapy is powerful, but so is what happens between sessions. I started this blog because I wanted a way to reach beyond the therapy room and share what I’ve learned about healing, presence, and being human.
Sometimes that might mean a short reflection you can read with your morning coffee. Other times, it will be a guide with practical tools to help you feel grounded again. My hope is that each post feels like an exhale, something you can come back to when the world feels loud.
A Note Before You Go
If you take one thing from this post, let it be this: healing doesn’t have to be dramatic or fast. It can be quiet, subtle, and steady, like noticing your breath or pausing long enough to feel your feet on the ground.
Thank you for being here and for beginning this journey with me. I hope the words you find in this space help you reconnect with your calm, your courage, and your capacity to grow.
Until next time,
-Caitlin
